Zumba Theory

...Zumba It seems like one cannot turn a television on without seeing a commercial about some “miracle weight loss pill” or “super slim down garment.” Health and fitness are being stressed more than ever in today’s society. With America having an ever increasing percentage of citizens who are overweight and obese, staying fit has become a growing concern. Incorporating exercise into daily life can be challenging. Americans are always on the go. Everything in our communities represents ease, entertainment, and convenience. What if there was a method to get a good workout, while still enjoying the time spent doing so? Hence the newest fitness trend: Zumba. Zumba is a fun, energetic way to integrate various music styles with high intensity dance moves to create an effective, aerobic workout. It has become widely popular because it is both enjoyable and beneficial, and it can be done a variety of ways in various settings. Zumba originated in South America. Latin American music is very upbeat which complements their lifestyle. Zumba incorporates several aspects of various Latin dances such as the salsa, merengue, bachata, samba, and much more. It captures the essence and freedom of Latin American culture and displays that through dance and song. However, some forms of Zumba have slightly strayed away from the original Latin inspired workout. There are now Zumba classes offered in almost every local gym. o The Zumba offered in these classes however, is a mix of Latin......

...Weight loss workout: Origin of Zumba fitness "Zumba fitness is always called a happy accident," says Sucheta. "One day Alberto "Beto" Perez, a Colombian who was an aerobics instructor in the early 90s forgot to carry his music tapes for his classes, but he still had to conduct the classes. He is also an amazing Latin dancer, so what he did - he improvised. He went to his car and brought his Latin music tapes out and played that class. He started to mix latin moves and the aerobics exercises, and that was the first unofficial Zumba class. Therefore we call it the happy accidient. Since that day, zumba fitness has grown in 12 years exponentially." This class revolutionized fitness and dance, Sucheta explains "He conducted 9-10 classes every week, he then moved to the capital of Colombia[->0] - Bogota and became famous. Then he wanted to take Zumba to the world, so the best thing to do is take Zumba to the US. But he had to struggle in the US - sleep on benches and knocked on every gym door to accept his programme - Zumba fitness. After struggling for four years in Miami[->1], one fitness director accepted his request. As he conducted Zumba there were other gym members whose interests were peaked with this fitness routine. And at the end of that one hour the class was full." And that's the story of Zumba fitness. Weight loss workout: Zumba fitness music "Zumba used very Latin inspired music - salsa, meringue, rumba, reggaeton. But in the last 5 years it is international......

...second habit I will incorporate into my lifestyle is muscle strengthening. This can be accomplished using canned goods, a straight back chair and the floor. Muscle strengthening is progressive over time. Gradually increasing the exercises used will build strength. I can perform these exercises two to three times a week in conjunction with my daily walking. Again, baby steps are key to prevent injury and discouragement. I love dancing, so the third habit I have chosen to meet the fitness need is Zumba. Zumba is a dance fitness program that involves dance and aerobic elements. The exercises are performed to music that has slow and fast rhythms. Many dance styles are incorporated such as hip-hop, salsa, soca, etc. It can be performed in a pool or uses a chair for workouts that focus on body weight and strengthening ("Zumba Fitness", 2013). I purchased the Zumba Gold DVD set in 2010, but never found time to use it. I will use the program twice a week. I can perform the Zumba moves while performing household chores, cooking, etc. Realistically facing my demons, three new nutritional habits that I can incorporate reasonably into my lifestyle are eating breakfast daily, increasing the frequency of my meals to three times a day, and increasing my water intake. Adaptations in my nutritional practices will lead to improvement in my health status and quality of life. I normally eat one meal a day, although healthy in content, this does not provide the nutrients,......

I believe NT Daily can add more things to their Facebook to keep a relationship with their alumni’s as wells as their current students. One of the things I suggest is that they should provide individual information about all the different majors, so that way people will want to have them on their Facebook. Students want to know about changes or what is going on with their majors or career. Another thing they should add is quotes because, quotes are a big part of Facebook and more and more people are adding quotes to their Facebook pages. This will help keep current and formal students become more involved with NT daily news as wells as keeping them motivated. The last suggestion I would recommend is posting football freebies. Therefore alumni’s can have chance to win free......

...is a 30 minute workout. They have machines designed to hit women’s’ trouble spots and the workout machines are in a circle form dedicated to motivate each other. All these amenities changed the mind of many women to join Curves for the environment because it was different from all the rest. Since Curves first debuted they have kind of been on a market on their own until Zumba. Zumba first started in the 90’s as well but did not hit the United States until early 2000’s. It started with dance workout videos and then in 2005 they received licenses to start teaching Zumba in classes. Zumba is an aerobic class of fast and slow dance moves. It is catered to women but men are welcomed as well. It is similar to how Curve works because it entices people to attend classes in place of the gym while promising results and having fun while working out. However there are some negatives to Zumba fitness. Zumba has grown so fast that there is pop up shops at every corner and because it is instructor lead anybody can be an instructor and getting the most out of Zumba is dependent on the person teaching the class. Zumba followed the Red Ocean Strategy by creating a different version of workout outside the gym and made it appealing just like Curves is. The Blue Ocean strategy benefits everyone. All it takes is inventing something that is outside of what is already offered. Businesses thrive and succeed on new ideas or inventions. Marketing a blue ocean strategy is like receiving......

Zumba and Therapeutic Use

...Zumba Essay Question: How Zumba related to therapy and how can it be used as a therapeutic tool? Based on various definitions, Zumba can be defined as an aerobic fitness program that combines Latin and international music with dance moves. According to the oxford dictionary, therapy is defined as a treatment intended to relieve or heal a disorder. On the other hand, therapeutic tools are tools that are used to maintain or restore one’s health. Researchers have discovered that zumba can be used as a form of therapy. Based on my research, I have gained the understanding that the related aerobic moves conducted during a zumba session are beneficial to one’s health and can be used as a effective therapeutic tool, especially for individuals with illnesses and disorders. Three ways in which I think zumba may be used as therapeutic tools are; Effective Calorie Burner, Weight Loss and as Stress Therapy. Firstly, zumba can be used as an effective calorie burner. According to a recent zumba study led by Dr. John Porcari, a person can burn an average of 369 calories (9.5 calories per minute) after doing a 38 minute session with an average heart rate of 154 beat per minute. Of course the actual calorie burn will depend on the energy you get from the session, the instructor, the type of music, dance moves, and your actual mood. Calorie burn is also compared with other exercises studied in the past. However, it was discovered that zumba could help burn more calories than step aerobics......

... I frankly have no idea what makes morning people or women tick. Still, I like to hypothesize and I have developed some theories as it relates to women and group exercise. (Morning people are simply a different breed, so I’ll save the topic for a later date.) Though I have been coaching teaching, training, and writing for years, I have never quite been able to put my finger on the dynamic of the majority of fitness classes being female-based. When I walk past a group exercise studio my mind is filled with a mixture of curiosity as to why it’s filled with so many women, as well as dash of regret for having chosen boxing instead of Zumba. I can tell you that from my estimation the average Zumba participant certainly is softer and gentler than the guys (and gals) hanging around the boxing gym. I’ve decided that surely, in my next life, I’ll be a Zumba instructor and participant. But, I digress. So what is the deal with women and exercise? While many of us guys do some hanging out in a group, perhaps the golf course or maybe a martial arts studio, it seems that more of us are more loners when it comes to our daily exercise. Even when we do hang out together for such activities, we make them seem like a competition, be it pick-up basketball, sparring at the boxing gym, or city-wide sports leagues. Guys, on the golf course, how often do you play when there isn’t some wager per hole? I rest my case. Us guys play together, but we aren’t necessarily making friends, we’re......

...attacks and worries that adding more requirements for herself to fulfill will only make the attacks more frequent. Description of Replacement Behavior The examiner suggested a “healthy lifestyle plan” to Patty, in which she would have four individual target behaviors and more of a chance for success. Patty liked the idea and decided on four individual healthy lifestyle changes she could put into place. Each of the four behaviors counts as 25% of a total 100%. The behaviors are as follows; one hour of zumba, stretch for ten minutes, drink four bottles of water and do four sets of twenty-five crunches every Monday, Wednesday and Thursday of each week. The replacement behavior will fill the small void of Patty’s free time with constructive behaviors instead of the present destructive ones. The replacement behavior is an improvement over the target behavior because it is beneficial to the participant’s health. The replacement behavior goal is possible to attain because zumba is held in the university’s gym, which is only a five-minute walk from the subject’s apartment. Doing ten minutes of stretching and completing four sets of twenty-five crunches are both activities that can be accomplished within the subjects home. Thus, Patty can perform the healthy behaviors at a time that is good for her during the day. By replacing what Patty usually drinks with water she can also manageably reach the target behavior of drinking four water bottles per day. Description of......

...Biology 104 Reaction Times Objectives: 1. Formulate and test hypotheses regarding reaction times. Introduction: Reaction time is a measure of how quickly an organism can respond to a particular stimulus. Reaction time has been widely studied, as its practical implications may be of great consequence, e.g. a slower than normal reaction time while driving can have grave results. Many factors have been shown to affect reaction times, including age, gender, physical fitness, fatigue, distraction, alcohol, personality type, and whether the stimulus is auditory or visual. The model for information flow within an organism can be represented in this way: Stimulus Receptor Integrator Effector Response More specifically, in vertebrates, information flow can be represented in this way: Stimulus Sensory Neuron Spinal Cord or Brain Motor Neuron Response Sensory neurons convert a stimulus into an electro-chemical signal, which flows the length of the sensory neuron(s), then through a neuron or neurons of the central nervous system, and then through the length of the motor neuron(s). Generally, motor neurons will cause a muscle to contract or a gland to secrete a substance. Reactions that involve only the receptor, the spinal cord, and the effector, are faster than those which involve processing in the brain. Reactions which only...
